Pune Police and PMC Collaborate on “Mission 15” Initiative to Tackle Traffic Congestion

Pune, 4th January 2025: Pune Police, in collaboration with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is focusing on an innovative initiative called “Mission 15” to address traffic congestion on 15 key roads to start with (out of 32 identified) across the city. The first-of-its-kind project aims to resolve long-standing issues faced by Punekars, including road encroachments, potholes, and inadequate road space for vehicular movement.
The initiative, overseen by Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil from Pune City Police and Aniruddha Pawaskar, Chief Engineer (Roads) at PMC, focuses on restoring the full usability of these roads within three weeks. Key areas of improvement include removing encroachments, repairing damaged roads and potholes, and ensuring complete availability of road space for smooth traffic flow.
“Mission 15” has already shown promising results, with road utilization increasing by up to 25% in some areas. The coordinated efforts of the Pune Police and PMC have been widely appreciated for their efficiency and emphasis on practical solutions.
Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil, known across the state for his innovative traffic management measures, expressed confidence in the success of the project. He highlighted the importance of collaborative governance in addressing urban challenges and improving citizens’ daily commutes.
In an interview with Punekar News consulting editor Tikam Shekhawat, both IPS Manoj Patil and Aniruddha Pawaskar shared insights about the initiative. Pawaskar emphasized that PMC is committed to completing the road repairs and encroachment removal within the stipulated timeline, ensuring a lasting impact on Pune’s traffic conditions.
With “Mission 15,” the Pune Police and PMC aim to provide significant relief to commuters and set a benchmark for urban traffic management in the state.
