Pune Police arrest 344 persons for wrong side driving

Pune, December 16, 2019: In order to reign in errant people driving on the wrong side, Pune city police has started drive against them. In the last three days, police have arrested 344 persons after FIRs were registered against them for driving on the wrong side.

Police officials said that a database of such offenders is being prepared, which will hamper their police verification for passport, job etc. The person driving on the wrong side, puts his/her life in danger as well as others also. Every day around 100 cases are being registered.

According to officials, they have identified 62 locations, where maximum commuters were observed taking to the wrong side of the road. They were charged under section 279 (rash driving) of Indian Penal Code (IPC). The arrests continued between Friday and Sunday.

DCP (Traffic) Pankaj Deshmukh said that the action will send a message that people cannot take traffic rules for granted.
