Pune Police Arrest Gang That Flew from Jaipur to Execute Mall Theft

Pune, 2nd April 2024: The Bund Garden police have apprehended the culprits responsible for theft at Reliance Fashion Factory Mall near Pune RTO.

The accused, Gaurav Kumar Ramkesh Meena (19 years old), and Balram Harbhajan Meena (29 years old), both from Dausa, Rajasthan, along with gang leader Yogesh Kumar Lakshmi Meena (25 years old, from Karauli, Rajasthan), and Sonu Kumar Biharilal Meena (25 years old), were arrested following their involvement in stealing branded clothes and shoes worth approximately Rs. 1.54 lakhs from the mall.

The theft occurred on Sunday (31st March) evening. Security guards promptly pursued and nabbed two of the culprits as they attempted to flee the spot. Subsequent investigation led to the discovery of stolen items in their car, which was intercepted at a nearby petrol pump.

Further interrogation and investigation by the police led to the arrest of gang leader Yogesh Meena from a hotel in Khadki Bazar and Sonu Meena from Pune Railway Station. Additionally, two theft cases previously registered at the Bund Garden police station have been linked to the arrested individuals, informed DCP (Zone 2) Smartana Patil.

According to police, the accused, travelling from Jaipur to Mumbai by plane before arriving in Pune, utilised rented motorcycles from Mumbai via the Zoom Car app for their operations. They adopted a method of stealing by posing as customers trying on clothes, subsequently removing security and barcode tags before concealing the stolen items.

The case was detected under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police Praveen Kumar Patil, DCP Smartana Patil, ACP Sanjay Surve, Senior Police Inspector Sandipan Pawar, and Police Inspector (Crime) Shrikant Nimbalkar. The team included Assistant Inspector Abhijit Jadhav, Police Sub-Inspector Ravindra Gawde, Police Personnel Dyaneshwar Bade, Shivaji Sarak, and Manoj Bhokare.
