Pune Police Arrest Lawyer For Helping Absconding Accused Ravindra Barhate
Pune, 3rd July 2021: The Crime Branch of Pune city police have arrested an advocate for allegedly helping accused Ravindra Barhate, who is absconding after committing fraud and land grabbing. The arrested lawyer has been identified as Sunil More.
Recently, the Crime Branch arrested three persons, including Barhate’s wife and son, for allegedly helping in the fraud case. The arrested are Sangeeta Ravindra Barhate (55), son Mayur Barhate and Pitambar Gulab Dhiwar.
Barhate is absconding in 12 cases of extortion, fraud and land grabbing in the city. Along with him, journalist Devendra Jain is also absconding. In three of the cases, action has been taken against Barhate. His gang includes Sanjay Bhokare of Sangli and dismissed policeman Shailesh Jagtap. Police have invoked the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
He had made allegations against the police twice on Facebook live video. Police have also arrested Pitambar for helping to make the video viral. Preliminary investigations revealed that Barhate’s wife and son were also involved in the conspiracy.
Therefore, Pune police had arrested Sangeeta Barhate on Wednesday afternoon. Later, his son Mayur was also arrested. Preliminary inquiries in the case also revealed that Adv Sunil More had helped the absconding Barhate. He has been arrested accordingly.
Meanwhile, Pitambar, brother of accused Sachin Gulab Dhiwar, has been arrested by the police. Police found that Pitambar had been in contact with Barhate since he absconded. He had circulated the video on social media. The police investigation revealed that Pitambar had helped Barhate in making and broadcasting all the videos and audios. He has been arrested accordingly.
