Pune Police Arrest RTI Activist Ravindra Barhate In Land Grabbing, Cheating Cases
Pune, 6th July 2021: After one and half years, Pune city police today arrested RTI activist Ravindra Barhate in cheating and land grabbing cases.
Barhate had been absconding after registration of 12 cases of extortion, fraud and land grabbing in the city. His gang includes Sanjay Bhokare of Sangli, journalist Devendra Jain and dismissed policeman Shailesh Jagtap. Police have invoked the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
Barhate had made allegations against the police twice on Facebook live video.
The Crime Branch had been keeping watch on those helping Barhate. A few days back, advocate Sunil More was arrested for allegedly helping the accused Barhate. Recently, the Crime Branch arrested three persons, including Barhate’s wife and son, for allegedly helping in the fraud case. The arrested persons are Sangeeta Ravindra Barhate (55), son Mayur Barhate and Pitambar Gulab Dhiwar.
Police found that Pitambar had been in contact with Barhate since he absconded. He had circulated the video on social media. The police investigation revealed that Pitambar had helped Barhate in making and broadcasting all the videos and audios.
