Pune, 28th October 2023: The officials from Market Yard Police stations have arrested arrested a woman and her accomplice involved in an elaborate honey trap scheme that targeted a senior citizen, resulting in the extortion of Rs 30 lakh from the victim.

The accused, identified as Jyoti Bansode, also known as Jyoti Nitin Ahivale, and her accomplice Ramchandra Bapu Korde, both residents of Dr. Ambedkarnagar in Market Yard, have been taken into custody.

The investigation began when a senior citizen approached the Market Yard Police Station to report the extortion. According to the complainant, a woman, known to him, introduced him to Jyoti Bansode. Subsequently, the woman acquaintance used the senior citizen’s mobile number to establish contact with him. Jyoti Bansode was arrested in connection with a theft case, and the senior citizen’s mobile number was discovered in her possession.

The accused then exploited the situation, instilling fear in the senior citizen by suggesting that he might be implicated in the theft case. To purportedly save him from legal trouble, they coerced him into paying a total of Rs 30 lakh, claiming it was required to settle the matter with the police.

The modus operandi involved pressuring the senior citizen to meet near CityPride Multiplex on Satara Road, where he was coerced into paying an additional Rs five lakh for alleged police and court expenses, along with a monthly payment of Rs one lakh. Fearing for his safety, the senior citizen promptly reported the incident to the police.

During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that Jyoti Bansode and Ramchandra Korde had deposited the extorted amount in a bank in the form of fixed deposits. The arrest was made possible through the efforts of Senior Police Inspector Suresh Singh Goud, Police Inspector Swapnali Shinde, Sub Inspector Yuvraj Shinde, and Kishore Pote, Nagesh Pisal, Amit Jadhav, and others.

A sum of Rs 23 lakh 55 thousand has been recovered from the accused, providing relief to the victimized senior citizen. The Market Yard Police are committed to ensuring justice in this case, and further legal proceedings will follow.
