Pune Police Arrests 5 Persons For Trying To Sell Whale Vomit Worth Rs 5.28 Crore

Deccan, 30th November 2022: The officials from the detection branch (DB) of Deccan Gymkhana police station have handcuffed five persons who were trying to sell whale vomit (ambergris). Police have seized 5.28 kg valued at worth Rs 5.28 crore in the illegal market.

 

Acting on a tip received by Assistant Police Inspector Kalyani Padole, in-charge of DB, a team laid a trap near the bus stop at Fergusson College on Tuesday. The accused were caught around 6 pm, informed DCP (Zone I) Sandip Singh Gill.

 

The arrested persons have been identified as Rajendra Rakesh Korde (28), Nawaz Abdula Kurupkar (24), Azim Mahmud Kazi (50), all residents of Anjarle in Dapoli taluka of Ratnagiri district, Vijay Vitthal Thange (56), Akshay Vijay Thange (26), both residents of Dhankawadi, Pune. A case has been registered against the accused under the Wildlife Protection Act at the Deccan Police Station.

 

 

 

DCP Gill added, “The team was searching for the accused. As per the information, three people were seen standing suspiciously at the rear of the Fergusson College bus stop. They were detained and when their bags were checked, whale vomit was found. Two persons (Vijay and Akshay Thange) who had come to help them were also detained from the other side of the road. A two-wheeler was also seized from them. ”

 

 

 

The action was taken under the guidance of DCP Gill, ACP Satish Govekar and Senior Inspector Muralidhar Karpe, in-charge of Deccan Gymkhana police station. The team included API Kalyani Padole and police personnel Datta Shinde, Mahendra Borse, Smita Pawar, Sachin Gaikwad, Vinay Badge, Swaleha Shaikh and Balasaheb Bhangle.
