Pune, 18th April 2025: The report submitted by a six-member expert committee from Sassoon General Hospital into the postnatal death of 26-year-old Tanisha Bhise does not currently recommend any actionable steps against Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital or its treating doctor, Dr. Shushrut Ghaisas, according to Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar.

Addressing the media on Thursday, Kumar stated, “We received the report this afternoon. It contains largely technical observations related to the treatment provided at various hospitals, including Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital. At this stage, there are no direct indications of negligence or criminal liability in the report.”

Kumar emphasized that further clarity is being sought. “We have identified four specific points within the report that require the committee’s expert opinion. We will decide on whether or not to register an offence only after we receive those clarifications,” he added.

The police chief refrained from disclosing detailed content of the report, noting that it includes information about the medical care Bhise received across multiple facilities — from her delivery at a Wakad hospital on March 29 to her subsequent demise two days later at a private hospital in Baner.

The expert panel, led by Dr. Yallappa Jadhav, Medical Superintendent of Sassoon Hospital, was formed to assess if any medical negligence occurred in the course of Bhise’s treatment. The committee included specialists from various departments including gynecology, pediatrics, anesthesiology, internal medicine, and forensic sciences.

Attempts to reach Dr. Jadhav for comment were unsuccessful as his phone remained unreachable. BJ Medical College Dean Dr. Eknath Pawar was also unavailable for a response.

The report, completed and submitted on Wednesday evening, was hand-delivered to the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) and the Alankar Police Station to maintain confidentiality and avoid premature disclosure.

This is the fourth inquiry report into Bhise’s death. Previous reports were submitted to the state government by different bodies. Meanwhile, Bhise’s family continues to allege that they were asked to pay ₹10 lakh in advance at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital when they attempted to admit her on March 28. They claim that delays and negligence in treatment worsened her condition, ultimately leading to her death.

The committee reviewed Bhise’s medical records from four facilities — Indira IVF (where she underwent assisted conception), Surya Hospital, Manipal Hospital, and Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital — to compile their findings.

Police are expected to make further decisions in the case once the Sassoon Hospital panel submits additional clarifications.
