Pune Police Bust Sextortion Racket, Man Arrested From Rajasthan For Demanding Rs 1 Lakh From Mohol MLA And 80 Others

Pune, 10th February 2023: A shocking incident has come to light wherein Rs one lakh was demanded from Mohol MLA through ‘Sextortion’ by calling on WhatsApp. In this case, the extortionist has been arrested by the Pune Cyber Police from Bharatpur in Rajasthan. It has been found that the concerned accused made video calls to 80 people in a similar manner.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ramnath Pokle informed in a press conference that the investigation is going on as to how many more people he has cheated.

The arrested person has been identified as Rizwan Aslam Khan (24) from Maharaipur (Sihavali) in Nagar tehsil of Bharatpur district of Rajasthan. The court has remanded him to five days of police custody.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Srinivas Ghadge, Mohol MLA Yashwant Mane, Assistant Commissioner of Police Vijaykumar Palasule, Senior Police Inspector Meenal Supe Patil, Assistant Police Inspector Balbhim Nanvare attended the press conference at Cyber Police Station in police headquarters, Shivajinagar.

Mohol taluka MLA Yashwant Mane is living with his family in Sadhu Vaswani Chowk area of Pune. On January 23, the cyber thief messaged him through WhatsApp. He tried to trap him by making video calls by sending obscene messages from time to time. Apart from that, the cyber thief threatened to send the screen-recorded video to Mane’s friends on Facebook. To avoid defamation, the accused demanded Rs one lakh. As the accused called and threatened Mane, he rushed to Pune Police Commissionerate and lodged a complaint.

Pune Cyber Police, through technical analysis, found the accused to be in Bharatpur, Rajasthan. A team of Pune Cyber Police reached Bharatpur, Rajasthan to trace the accused. The team investigated for seven days and found the whereabouts of the accused Rizwan Khan and arrested him.

The investigation team included DCP Srinivas Ghadge, ACP Vijaykumar Palsule, Senior Police Inspector Minal Supe-Patil, Assistant Inspector Balbhim Nanvare, Sub-Inspector Sachin Jadhav, and Rajkumar Jaba, Shirish Gawde, Shrikrishna Sandeep Yadav, Pravin Singh Rajput and Pooja Mandle.

Police have appealed to the citizens to contact the mobile numbers 7742670358, 8865024862, 8001970178, 9587342828 to report immediately if they are threatened to broadcast obscene videos on social media. They can also visit Cyber Police Station Shivajinagar or contact 7058719375 and 7058719371.
