Pune Police Commissioner Assures Safety Measures for Journalists During Public Events
Pune, 8th September 2025: Following an incident during the Ganesh immersion procession where two dhol-tasha troupes allegedly misbehaved with reporters, the Pune Shramik Patrakar Sangh delegation met Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar on Monday to raise concerns over journalists’ safety.
During the meeting, Kumar assured the delegation that adequate measures would be implemented to ensure that reporters can carry out their duties without obstruction. He emphasized that the police would take full responsibility for the safety of journalists covering public events.
SOP for Dhol-Tasha Troupes
The Commissioner announced that a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will soon be put in place to regulate the functioning of dhol-tasha troupes during processions. Instructions will also be issued to Ganesh mandals and troupe organizers to limit the number of participants for better crowd control.
Action on Misconduct
Referring to the case of alleged misconduct against a female journalist, Kumar said that an FIR has already been registered and further action will be taken promptly. He added that police accreditation passes issued to journalists will be honored strictly, ensuring reporters face no hurdles while performing their duties.
Kumar also suggested that prior discussions and planning between police officials and media bodies would help address concerns and put preventive measures in place before large-scale events.
The meeting was attended by Pune Shramik Patrakar Sangh President Brijmohan Patil, General Secretary Mangesh Falle, Treasurer Dilip Tayade, and a large number of journalists.
