Pimpri, 25th July 2025: With traffic congestion worsening in the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey visited various key road stretches in Hinjawadi on Thursday to assess the situation first-hand and explore practical traffic management solutions.

During the inspection, Choubey instructed that safety barricades be placed at strategic locations to curb wrong-way driving. He also proposed trial route diversions for a one-month period to evaluate their effectiveness in reducing traffic pressure.

The high-level visit was attended by top representatives from various government departments and agencies, including Additional Police Commissioner Shashikant Mahavarkar, Joint Commissioner of Police Sarang Awad, Additional Commissioner, PMRDA Deepak Singla, Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Police Vivek Patil, Zone 3 DCP Vishal Gaikwad, ACP (Wakad Division) Sunil Kurade, Senior Inspector (Hinjawadi) Balaji Pandhare, Civic activists Sachin Gunale and Sachin Londhe from the Unclog Hinjawadi IT Park movement along with representatives from MSEDCL, PMPML, and MIDC.

Proposed Interventions to Improve Flow
Several targeted solutions were discussed during the visit, aiming to ease daily traffic gridlocks:
Making select roads one-way to reduce conflicts
Installing barricades near MIDC Circle to prevent wrong-direction driving
Removing encroachments near Dollar Company Nala and Pandav Nagar
Redesigning traffic islands at Jamrulkar Chowk and Indian Oil Petrol Pump junction
Halting opposing lane traffic at Shell Petrol Pump Chowk
Creating a dedicated PMPML bus bay near Mega Police Circle
Relocating the MSEDCL transformer near the service road bridge to enable smooth “free-left” turns

The review began at the Hinjawadi Traffic Division Office and continued across major junctions, such as Mindtree Consulting Chowk, where signal timings and traffic patterns were closely studied.

Driven by growing public frustration, the Unclog Hinjawadi IT Park campaign had earlier submitted a 57-page report complete with geo-tagged problem spots and practical solutions. The report was formally handed over to Commissioner Choubey at the Hinjawadi Police Station.

“This report has been developed with active citizen input. If implemented, the suggestions could significantly improve the traffic situation within three to four months,” said campaign leader Sachin Londhe, adding that a few trial changes would be launched for public feedback.

The inspection underlines a renewed commitment by the police and civic authorities to untangle Hinjawadi’s long-standing traffic snarls, especially as the IT park continues to grow as a major employment and infrastructure hub.
