The Sangam Tarun Mandal Trust Public Ganeshotsav Mandal at Kothrud is making its debut in its 56th year this year. Every year in Ganeshotsav, a scene based on important events and occasions in the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is presented by the concerned Mandal.

On August 11, the Mandal had sent a letter to the Kothrud police asking for permission to present a live scene on the subject of ‘Afzal Khan’s death’ for Ganeshotsav.

After discussing with the senior police officers, the Kothrud police sent a letter to the president of the board, Adv Keshav Shinde stating that permission is being denied to present the show in order not to create a law and order problem.

Adv Shinde has clarified that even though the permission has been denied by the police, the mandal will present this program.

Shinde said, “For the past 20 years, we have presented scenes based on the events and occasions of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s life. This year we are going to present the scene ‘Death of Afzal Khan’. Even though the police refused permission, we are still going to put on a show.”

“Mandal had sought our permission. We have informed them not to present the relevant scene so as not to create a law and order problem,” said Mahendra Jagtap, Senior Police Inspector, Kothrud Police Station.

In this matter, Mandal will now appeal to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadanvis.
