Pune, 22nd March 2022: The Pune city police on Monday questioned Pankaj Dahane, who was the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) during tenure of Rashmi Shukla as Police Commissioner, in connection with the phone tapping case.
As per the Maharashtra state government’s order, Bund Garden police station has registered an FIR against then Commissioner of Police Rashmi Shukla for allegedly tapping the phones of political leaders including state Congress president Nana Patole under the guise of investigating criminal cases.
According to officials, till now seven police personnel and officers who were then working with The technical analysis wing (TAW) of Pune police have been questioned in the case. TAW which functions under the Crime Branch has technical expertise and machinery to legally intercept phone calls.
During the questioning of DCP Dahane, it was revealed that then Police Commissioner Rashmi Shukla had given verbal orders to tap the phone calls. Shukla is also expected to be called for questioning in the coming days.
A FIR has been registered against Rashmi Shukla and others at Bund Garden Police Station for tapping phones of Congress State President Nana Patole, former MP Sanjay Kakade, former MLA Ashish Deshmukh and Minister Bachchu Kadu under different names for 60 days.
