Pune, 31 July 2020: Assistant Police Inspector Dattatraya Madane (36) has been dismissed from service for raping a woman under the pretext of marrying her. Pune police commissioner K Venkatesham issued his dismissal order on Wednesday.

When Madane was suspended due to the allegations of rape, he was working with Bharti Vidyapeeth police station from December 2016 to February 2019.

Prior to his posting in Bharti Vidyapeeth police station, he worked with Hadapsar police station where he met the 28-year-old woman who had come to file a complaint against her husband. From thereon, Madane established physical relations with her and promised to marry her.

According to a departmental inquiry, Madane used to visit the woman’s house every day. The woman had also submitted her daughter’s school documents where Madane was mentioned as her husband. She had also submitted shoes and uniform that Madane had left in her house.

She also submitted documents of her abortion. In October 2017, she had terminated a pregnancy where Madane was stated as her husband.

When their relationship was not working out, Madane started harassing the woman. When the woman tried to lodge a complaint against him, he threatened to kill her and her eight-year-old daughter.
