Pune Police on High Alert After Pahalgam Terror Attack Claims Lives of Two Local Residents

Pune, 23rd April 2025: In the wake of the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 tourists including two Pune residents, the city police have ramped up security measures. Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has directed increased surveillance and deployment in sensitive areas, particularly Kondhwa and Karvenagar, from where the deceased hailed.

Commissioner Kumar has called for public cooperation and community vigilance. “We urge citizens to remain alert and report anything unusual. Maintaining peace and order is a shared responsibility,” he said.

The victims, Kaustubh Ganbote of Sainagar in Kondhwa and Santosh Jagdale of Karvenagar, were among those killed in the terrorist attack on Tuesday. Their mortal remains are expected to arrive in Pune around midnight.

Security has been tightened at key locations across the city. All police stations have been instructed to maintain a state of heightened alert and monitor local developments closely. In addition, social media platforms are under strict watch to prevent the spread of misinformation. The police have warned that spreading rumours or false information will invite strict legal action. Citizens are urged to verify any news before sharing and to report suspicious activities immediately to the police control room via dial 112.

The Pahalgam terror attack, which took place in Anantnag district, has triggered security alerts nationwide, with major cities like Pune reinforcing their law and order protocols. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has begun probing the attack, while central and state governments continue to coordinate efforts to ensure public safety.
