Pune Rural Police Raid Opium Cultivation In Indapur; Seize Large Quantities Of Opium Pods

Indapur, 22nd February 2025: In a major crackdown on illegal drug cultivation, Walchandnagar Police and the Local Crime Investigation Branch raided farms in Nhavi village, Indapur taluka, where Opium was being illegally cultivated. A significant quantity of Opium pods was seized, and authorities continued measuring the confiscated produce and registering cases until late at night.
Acting on a tip-off, police teams launched an early morning raid in Nhavi village and discovered that several farmers had been cultivating Opium camouflaged within Maize crops. The illegal activity had been ongoing in the area, prompting law enforcement to take swift action.
Throughout the day, a large contingent of police officers combed through agricultural fields, identifying Opium cultivation sites and taking action against those involved. The seized Opium pods and plants are now in police custody, and cases are being registered against the farmers responsible. Several individuals have been detained in connection with the illegal farming.
The operation was led by Baramati Sub-Divisional Police Officer Dr. Sudarshan Rathod, along with Local Crime Investigation Branch Police Inspector Avinash Shilimkar, API Rahul Gawde, API Kuldeep Sankpal, Police Inspector Vaishali Patil, and Walchandnagar Police Station Assistant Police Inspector Rajkumar Dunage.
This is not the first time such an operation has been conducted in Indapur taluka. Authorities had previously cracked down on illegal Opium farming in the region, underscoring the ongoing efforts to curb narcotics production. Police officials have reaffirmed their commitment to eliminating such illicit activities and are expected to take further action against those involved.
