Pune Police Recover Rs 14.5 lakhs pending fine from people driving vehicles during lockdown

Pune, April 23, 2020: In the last four days, Pune city police have recovered pending fines of Rs 14.5 lakhs from people who were found driving vehicles during the lockdown. The penalty amount was recovered from 2940 people.

Additional Commissioner of Police Dr Sanjay Shinde said that during lockdown there is a restriction on the movement of people and vehicle. However, many people are still coming out of their homes unnecessarily. “We have set up 13 check posts and 109 nakabandi points across the city to check vehicles. We have begun collecting pending fines now”, said Add CP Shinde.

According to police, between April 19 and 22, a total of 6655 vehicles were checked and police recovered pending fines from 2940. Since the lockdown began, police have seized as many as 29,000 vehicles for violating the curfew order. Also, FIRs have been registered against 10,000 people have been prosecuted after FIRs were registered against them for an offence under section 188 (disobedience of order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Police have also issued warning notices to over 20,000 people. Also, action has been taken against about 400 people who were walking without wearing masks.

Police have appealed people to stay at home as Coronavirus is spreading rapidly in Pune city. A total of 64 new Coronavirus positive patients were found in Pune yesterday, taking the total tally to 772. According to Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials, until now 122 patients have been cured and discharged from hospitals. There are 594 patients still admitted and their condition is stable. However, the conditions of 26 patients are critical.

Across Maharashtra, 431 new COVID-19 cases were reported yesterday taking the state tally to 5649. India’s total number of Coronavirus positive cases increased to 21393 (including 16454 active cases, 4257 cured/ discharged/ migrated and 681 deaths), according to Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
