Pune: Police Sub-Inspector Arrested by ACB for Demanding Rs 25,000 Bribe

Pune, 31st October 2024: A Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) was caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Pune for demanding a bribe of Rs 25,000. A warrant had been issued against a father-son duo by the Sessions Court in Kolkata, and its execution was assigned to the accused PSI. At the time of the ACB’s intervention, the PSI had accepted Rs 10,000 of the bribe amount.

A 64-year-old man filed the complaint with the ACB, Pune. The accused, PSI Sharad Dashrath Kanase from Hadapsar Police Station, now faces charges under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act of 1988.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Dayanand Gawade, the complainant and his son were issued a warrant by the Sessions Court in Kolkata, which PSI Kanase was ordered to execute. However, to avoid arrest, PSI Kanase allegedly demanded a Rs 25,000 bribe from the duo. The complainant subsequently reported the incident to the ACB, Pune. PSI Kanase accepted Rs 10,000 of the bribe and was apprehended by the ACB during the transaction. He has been arrested, and a case has been registered against him. Police Inspector Amol Bhosale from the ACB is overseeing the investigation.

This action was conducted under the supervision of ACB Pune’s Superintendent of Police Shirish Deshpande and Additional Superintendent of Police Dr. Sheetal Janve.
