Yerwada, 13th September 2021: Pune city police have booked a Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) for allegedly securing a job with the help of a bogus sports certificate of a powerlifting championship winner.

Based on a complaint from Pramodini Arun Amrutwad, deputy director of the sports and youth welfare department, the case has been registered at Yerwada police station against Mahadeo Ahok Sapkal of Shivajinagar. He is currently posted in Mumbai.

According to police, the incident took place in 2017. Sapkal cleared the Maharshtra Service Public Commission (MPSC) examination. To get the job of PSI under the sports quota, he submitted a fake certificate of winning the power lifting championship. His certificates mentioned that he had participated in the senior power lifting championship held at Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu in 2010 and he had bagged the title of the 75 kilogram category. He was selected as PSI on the basis of this certificate in the 2017 batch.

During verification, the sports department found out that Sapkal had secured the job by submitting a false certificate. Someone else had won the title.

Sapkal has been booked for cheating. Assistant Police Inspector Pramod Khatke is further investigating the case.
