Pune Police Take Action Against 171 Drunk Drivers During Three-Day Enforcement Drive
Pune, 27th April 2026: Pune City Traffic Police took action against 171 motorists for drunk driving during a three-day special enforcement drive conducted across the city between March 24 and March 26.
Officials said the campaign was launched to curb drunken driving and improve road safety. As part of the operation, traffic police set up 33 checkpoints at various locations and carried out breath analyser tests on motorists.
During the drive, 171 drivers were found driving vehicles under the influence of alcohol, following which legal action was initiated against them.
Police also penalised other motorists found violating traffic rules under provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and initiated further legal proceedings where necessary.
According to police, the objective of the campaign was to prevent accidents, enhance road safety, protect lives and property, and encourage responsible driving habits.
Traffic police appealed to citizens not to drive after consuming alcohol, warning that drunken driving is a serious punishable offence and significantly increases the risk of accidents.
Motorists were urged to strictly follow traffic rules and ensure their own safety as well as that of other road users.
