Pune, 27th April 2026: Pune Police’s Zone 7 has arrested 19 persons including those from Rajasthan and seized narcotics worth over Rs 58 lakh during a special anti-drug drive carried out across the eastern parts of the city between April 1 and April 23.

The campaign was launched following instructions from senior officials to intensify action against narcotics in Pune. Police formed station-level special teams and conducted raids in the jurisdictions of Wagholi, Lonikand, Lohegaon, Airport, Chandannagar and Kharadi police stations.

During the operation, police registered 13 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against those allegedly involved in the sale and consumption of mephedrone (MD) and ganja. Initially, 13 accused were arrested.

During interrogation and back-tracing of the supply chain, some of the accused allegedly revealed that the mephedrone had been sourced from Rajasthan. Based on the leads, a separate police team was sent to Rajasthan, where six more accused were detained in connection with the racket.

In total, 19 persons have been arrested so far.

Police said the seized contraband included 289.19 grams of mephedrone, 422 grams of ganja, and 260 grams of powder containing traces of MD. The total value of the seized material has been estimated at Rs 58,18,250.

Further investigation is underway to identify additional links in the network and trace the full supply chain.

Police said similar anti-drug operations would continue in the coming days. Citizens have also been urged to report any suspected sale or consumption of narcotics in their locality to the nearest police station or by calling the emergency helpline 112.
