Pune: Police to Collect Rs 500 Fine from People Found Spitting, Not Wearing Mask in Public Places

Pune, August 28, 2020: District Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh has authorised police officers and constables of Pune rural police to take action against people who are found without the mask in public places and also those who spit in public places. The cops will collect Rs 500 fine from them.

The decision was taken in the backdrop of rising Coronavirus disease (COVID19) cases in the rural areas of the district. “As per the request of the Superintendent of Police (Pune rural), the police officers and constables are authorised to collect Rs 500 fine from people who are not wearing the mask in public places. They will also take action against people who are without a mask while driving a vehicle. Police are also authorised to collect Rs 500 fine from people who are found spitting”, states the order dated August 26.

The Collector has also clarified that those who will not comply with this order, will be prosecuted for an offence under section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
