Pune, August 2, 2019 : The traffic branch of Pune city police with support from Pune Metro, will soon install three traffic signals and build divider on the Pune-Ahmednagar highway to resolve some traffic problems in Wagholi. People have been frequently complaining about traffic jams during peak hours.

According to police officials, the jurisdiction of Pune police commissionerate extends till Telyachi Mori on Nagar road and beyond that Pune rural police has jurisdiction. Every day in the morning and evening, there is traffic congestion on the highway stretch between Wagholi and Kharadi Bypass chowk. This has led to accidents also. There are nullah on both sides of the road. The builders in the area have encroached upon these nullahs, and natural flow of water has been obstructed. This has compounded the traffic issue on highway as water is flowing on the road. Also, there is CNG station near Telyachi Mori and Sidheshwar parking, near Apna Ghar, for luxury buses/trucks, which also adds to the problems.

Police Inspector RS Sathe, in-charge of Yerwada traffic division, said, “We have proposed building divider and three signals between Telyachi Mori and Apna Ghar bus stop, to streamline traffic on the Nagar road. The work will be done with assistance from Pune Metro.”

The residents of Wagholi as well as people commuting through Nagar road have been demanding authorities to resolve traffic problem in Wagholi. The Wagholi Housing Society Association (WHSO) have petitioned the government several times on the issue.
