Pune: Police Van Crashes Into Multiple Vehicles in Sadashiv Peth; Driver Detained

Sadashiv Peth, 1st August 2026: A police van allegedly went out of control and rammed into multiple vehicles in Pune’s Sadashiv Peth area on Friday evening, damaging at least four to five vehicles. No injuries were reported in the incident, which occurred near Pune Vidyarthi Griha in Deshmukhwadi around 7 pm.

According to police, the van was being driven by Balasaheb Khaire when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle on the narrow stretch of road. The van first collided with a car and an Ape auto-rickshaw before crashing into several parked two-wheelers along the roadside.

The incident caused panic among residents and passersby, as a group of youngsters and children were standing near the roadside at the time of the crash. Fortunately, no one was injured despite the impact, though several vehicles sustained significant damage.

Officials from Vishrambaug Police Station rushed to the spot after receiving information about the accident and took the driver into custody. Police have sent the driver for a medical examination to determine whether he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. The exact cause of the crash is also under investigation.

Senior Police Inspector Navnath Jagtap of Vishrambaug Police Station said the accident occurred after the driver suddenly lost control of the police van on the narrow road, causing it to hit vehicles parked along the roadside. He added that four to five vehicles were damaged and legal proceedings to register a case against the driver are underway.

Local resident Mahesh Jain, who witnessed the incident, said the driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol after stepping out of the vehicle. Residents immediately alerted the police control room, following which officers arrived at the scene and took charge of the situation.

Police are awaiting the medical examination report, which will help determine whether alcohol consumption played a role in the accident. Further investigation is underway.
