Pune, 1st September 2023: In a series of resolute actions, the Pune Police have intensified their efforts against two well-known pubs, Unicorn House and Elrow, located in the bustling Kalyani Nagar area.

Information obtained from the Pune Police’s Zone 4 reveals that these establishments have been subject to over 20 interventions by police officials in the last year alone, including the lodging of three cases against them. The charges primarily arise from persistent issues related to sound pollution and late-night operations.

Specifically, Elrow finds itself entangled in legal proceedings with two cases filed against it, while Unicorn House contends with one case. The frequency of these cases indicates a pattern of disregard for regulations governing noise levels and operational hours. A noteworthy instance involves a violation of Section 188 of the IPC, highlighting the pubs’ non-compliance with official directives.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 4) Shashikant Borate has taken an assertive stance on this matter. On August 9, 2023, he dispatched a strongly-worded letter to the Pune Excise Department and the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). In the communication, Borate advocated for the revocation of both the liquor and food licenses for the establishments in question.

It’s worth noting that District Collector Rajesh Deshmukh previously exercised his authority to withdraw their licenses during Dry Days.

Google listings further reveal that Unicorn House operates until 5 am, and Elrow extends its operations until 3 am, indicating a consistent trend of operating beyond permissible hours.

Numerous complaints from Kalyani Nagar’s exasperated residents, deeply perturbed by incessant sound pollution and late-night disruptions, prompted them to approach the Pune Commissioner of Police. Their grievances were amplified by the support of MLA Sunil Tingre, who joined forces with them in advocating for immediate action against the pubs.

Officials from the Excise Department emphasize that the Collector holds the pivotal authority to rescind licenses, signifying the gravity of this situation.
