Pune Porsche Accident Case: Court to Hear Plea to Try Minor as Adult in June; Sassoon Doctor Seeks Discharge

Pune, 18th May 2025: The minor accused in the high-profile Kalyani Nagar Porsche crash case may be tried as an adult, with the Juvenile Justice Board set to hear the Pune Police’s application in June. The minor, the 17-year-old son of a Pune-based builder, allegedly drove an unregistered Porsche Taycan under the influence of alcohol, killing two IT professionals in a collision on May 19, 2024.
As the case unfolds with national attention, new legal maneuvers emerged this week.
Dr. Ajay Taware, a senior official at Sassoon General Hospital and one of the accused in the case, has filed a discharge application, which will be heard in court on Tuesday, May 20. Special Public Prosecutor Shishir Hiray labelled the move as a delay tactic.
“Such applications are aimed at stalling the hearing of the case. The government is committed to ensuring the case proceeds swiftly,” said Hiray.
Dr Taware had swapped blood samples of the minor driver to save him from drunk driving charges. The teen driver’s mother’s blood samples were sent for forensic test. Later, she was also arrested and recently released on bail from Yerawada Central Jail.
In another development, Aditya Sood, also an accused, has moved a bail plea which is scheduled for hearing on Sunday, May 19, at the Shivajinagar court.
“Once the hearings on both the bail and discharge applications are concluded, the process of framing charges will begin,” Hiray stated, adding that the prosecution has already submitted a list of witnesses and relevant documents to expedite the trial.
He further noted, “There appears to be a deliberate attempt to obstruct progress in the case by filing separate applications. However, the government will present strong arguments against these pleas to prevent delays.”
The accident occurred in the early hours of May 19 last year, when the speeding Porsche allegedly driven by the minor collided with a motorcycle in Kalyani Nagar, killing Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both IT professionals from Madhya Pradesh.
