Katraj, 4th May 2025: Residents of the Bharati Vidyapeeth area and Duttnagar in Katraj faced major inconvenience on Sunday as electricity remained unavailable for most of the day. The power outage, which began around 9 am, came as a blow amid soaring summer temperatures.

According to Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), the disruption was caused by a fire in the underground cable of a mini feeder pillar supplying electricity to approximately 40 to 45 consumers in Sainagar Gali No. 4 near Bharati Vidyapeeth. The incident occurred around 10 am, resulting in a complete halt of power supply in the affected area.

MSEDCL spokesperson Nishikant Raut informed around 6:30 pm that the faulty cable was deeply embedded and aged, requiring the laying of a new underground line. “About 30 meters of new cable has been laid, and electricity supply will be restored to the affected consumers within the next 15 to 20 minutes,” he said.

Residents expressed frustration over the lack of electricity during peak heat hours, with many reporting difficulty in managing without fans, coolers, or water pumps. The incident once again highlights the vulnerability of aging infrastructure in rapidly growing urban pockets of Pune.
