Pune: Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule Backs Purandar Airport, Urges Farmers to Voice Grievances Directly

Pune, 4th May 2025: Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Sunday defended the Purandar International Airport project, calling it vital for the development of western Maharashtra, and urged protesting farmers to directly raise their concerns with him. He was in Pune for an event when he addressed the media, responding to questions about the alleged police lathi charge on farmers opposing the airport.
“If the farmers have any questions or issues, they should raise them with me. As the Revenue Minister, I handle land acquisitions. If they are unhappy with the compensation rates or seek job assurances, they should reach out. We will see what can be done,” Bawankule said, underlining the project’s significance to regional infrastructure growth.
Bawankule, a senior BJP leader, also launched a sharp attack on Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) MP Sanjay Raut over his comments on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the context of the recent Pahalgam terror attack. “Sanjay Raut will take time to understand PM Modi. His statements are anti-social. PM Modi is working for the country, and we will punish the terrorists responsible. He has made the right decisions and will continue focusing on the safety of 140 crore Indians,” said Bawankule.
He also addressed corruption allegations in the Department of Registration and Stamps, stating the government is committed to rooting out malpractices. “We will identify those involved in corruption and punish them. The ‘One District One Registration’ policy has started, enabling citizens to register properties from anywhere in a district. Soon, we plan to implement a ‘One State One Registration’ system,” he announced.
Highlighting the need for transparency, Bawankule proposed that administrative officers, like electoral candidates, should disclose their assets before and after service. “Just like candidates declare assets during elections, officers should disclose how much they had before joining service and what they have now,” he said.
