Pune: Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana Resumes in Pune: Over 1,600 Pregnant Women Enrolled, Pending Cases Being Cleared
Pune, 10th September 2025: After years of delays and hurdles, the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) has finally regained momentum in Pune. The flagship maternal health scheme, aimed at supporting pregnant and lactating women, is now being implemented smoothly under the Women and Child Welfare Department.
Officials confirmed that 1,646 pregnant women have already been registered across Pune city and district, with enrollment drives being conducted aggressively through anganwadi centres.
The scheme provides direct cash benefits to ensure better health for both mothers and newborns:
For the first child:
₹3,000 after pregnancy registration (within 100 days) and a six-month check-up.
₹2,000 more after the child completes prescribed vaccinations.
For the second child (if girl):
An additional ₹6,000 after vaccination.
This financial support is designed to encourage nutritious diets, reduce maternal and infant mortality, and promote child health.
The PMMVY was earlier run by the Health Department but officially shifted to the Women and Child Welfare Department on July 1, 2025. The transition, coupled with portal breakdowns and documentation errors, had left many beneficiaries waiting for years.
“Registering thousands of anganwadi centres on the portal was the toughest challenge. Normally, it takes eight months, but we completed it in just two. Some technical issues remain, but workshops for officers are helping us resolve them quickly. Even pending beneficiaries from 2017 are now being cleared,” said Manisha Biraris, CDPO and Nodal Officer for Pune city.
Deputy CEO of the Women and Child Welfare Department, Anand Khandagale, confirmed that all Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs) have been instructed to speed up registrations and fix errors in backlog cases.
