Pune: Pre-Season Alphonso Mangoes Make Early Entry in Pune, Fetch Rs 15,000 Per Crate
Market Yard, 24th January 2026: The season’s first pre-harvest arrival of Konkan Alphonso mangoes at Pune’s Gultekdi Market Yard drew strong attention on Friday, with each crate commanding a premium price of Rs 15,000 amid limited supply and high early demand.
The consignment, sourced from the Jaitapur area of Ratnagiri district, comprised four crates containing three dozen mangoes each. The arrival was formally welcomed with traditional rituals by Pune Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) director Ganesh Ghule, fruits and vegetables department head Balasaheb Konde, and commission agent Yuvraj Kachi, who subsequently purchased the entire lot.
Although Ratnagiri Alphonso mangoes typically begin arriving in markets from March, traders said the current consignment represents an early pre-season harvest. Alongside the Alphonso mangoes, one crate of Kesar mangoes also reached the market.
Market officials noted that while sporadic early arrivals of Alphonso mangoes have been recorded this year, overall volumes remain extremely low, keeping prices elevated. Traders, however, expressed confidence that rates would stabilise and soften once arrivals increase during the peak season.
According to mango traders, favourable climatic conditions this winter—particularly prolonged cold temperatures—have contributed to improved flowering across mango orchards. The blossoms have remained intact, raising expectations of a better yield compared to last year. Regular arrivals of Alphonso mangoes are expected to begin between February 15 and 20.
