Pimpri-Chinchwad, 21st June 2025: In a major relief to local villagers, farmers, and the Warkari community, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced the cancellation of the proposed slaughterhouse reservation in Moshi and near the pilgrimage town of Alandi. The controversial reservation was part of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) revised development plan (DP).

Addressing media after taking darshan of the Ashadhi Wari palanquins of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj in Pune, Fadnavis affirmed, “No slaughterhouse will be allowed in Moshi or Alandi under any circumstances. I have issued clear orders to remove the reservation. The faith of Warkaris, Bhumiputras, and farmers will not be compromised.”

The announcement came after sustained demands from local citizens, cow protection activists, and public representatives. BJP MLA Mahesh Landge, who had been actively following up with PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh and the state government, welcomed the decision. “The people of Moshi and Charholi stood united. We submitted detailed representations and the Chief Minister responded positively. I express my heartfelt gratitude,” Landge said.

Two days earlier, during a foundation stone-laying ceremony for various development projects in Pimpri-Chinchwad, villagers had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister demanding the immediate cancellation of the slaughterhouse reservation. MLA Landge had reiterated the demand at the event.

The inclusion of a slaughterhouse reservation near Shrikshetra Alandi, a revered pilgrimage site, had sparked opposition from several quarters. Religious sentiments and cultural sensitivities led to strong resistance from the Warkari sect and local residents.

Fadnavis reiterated the commitment of the BJP Mahayuti government to protect religious sentiments and uphold laws related to cow protection. “Our government stands for Dharma, Gau Raksha (cow protection), and national values. The slaughterhouse reservation near sacred areas like Alandi goes against this vision, and we will not allow it,” he asserted.

The CM also cited past decisions, such as the cancellation of the Town Planning (TP) scheme in Talgaon-Chikhali and the suspension of the Charholi TP scheme, as examples of the government’s sensitivity to public sentiment.

With the official order expected to follow soon, the decision marks a significant political and cultural milestone for the region, reaffirming the government’s alignment with traditional and religious values.
