Pune: Punekars Buy 40,000 Indigenous Tree Saplings From PMC Garden Department

Pune, 26th June 2021: In a recent trend, citizens of the city prefer to plant indigenous trees. The Garden Department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), has arranged a ‘Vanmahotsav’ festival at Sambhaji Garden on JM Road. In ten days, Puneites have bought more than 40 thousand tree saplings and the festival will continue till 15th August.
The Garden Department of PMC has grown the saplings at their nursery and they are given to the citizens at a very low cost (Rs 5).
There are saplings of Mango, Tamarind, Almonds, Okra, and other trees. PMC has requested citizens to plant indigenous trees as they are suited to the environment.
Superintendent of Garden Department Ashok Ghorpade said, “People should plant more of these saplings as it will help the environment.”
