Pune, 14th January 2023: The report of Pune’s proposed international airport project at Purandar has been sent to the High Power Committee (HPC) of the Maharashtra state government. The committee has found some errors in this report. The work to eliminate these errors is currently underway. Due to this, it has come to light that there is a delay in releasing the notification of the project.

After the transfer of power in the state, the current state government decided to carry out the project at the old site in Purandar. Also, the land acquisition of the project will be done as per Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) Act.

Accordingly, all the documents, maps, and detailed plans of action taken by the District Administration and Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) have been handed over to MIDC. MIDC has scrutinized and re-evaluated the documents and sent a comprehensive report to the HPC. However, some errors have been noticed in this report. Therefore, it is clear that there will be some delay in the release of the notification regarding the airport.

Speaking about this, the Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao said, “On September 7, 2022, the district administration and MADC gave complete document details like survey number, land owner, maps of 2,972 hectares of land to MIDC. Accordingly, MIDC inspected and scrutinized the relevant documents. Also, the land has been re-evaluated.”

According to officials, this place is the best for economic development purposes (Intention of Development – IOD) along with the airport and there is no objection to a multimodal logistics hub at this place. A detailed report in this regard was presented in the HPC meeting held at the end of December.

Rao further said, “Meanwhile, at present, the work of rectifying the errors is in the final stage in coordination with MIDC, MADC, and district administration. Accordingly, this report will be submitted to the HPC. After that, the report will be submitted to the Principal Secretary of the state and after that, a notification will be issued regarding the airport proceedings.”

Vanpuri, Kumbharvalan, Udachi Wadi, Ekhatpur, Munjwadi, Khanwadi, and Pargaon are the seven villages affected. 1,800 hectares of land will be required for the development of the airport. The rest of the land is proposed to be developed for multi-purpose cargo transport centers and other incidentals.
