Chikhali, 6th February 2025: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has confirmed that the Purandar Airport project will proceed, highlighting its crucial role in Pune’s development. Speaking in Chikhali, Fadnavis stated that the land acquisition proposal for the airport has been received by the state government and will be promptly approved.

The Chief Minister assured that fair compensation would be provided to landowners, with rates to be determined soon. He emphasized that no one would incur losses in the process. Fadnavis expects the Purandar Airport to quadruple Pune’s development rate, establishing it as an international city— a status currently hindered by limitations at the existing Lohegaon Airport.

Explaining the need for a new airport, Fadnavis pointed out that while Lohegaon Airport has been upgraded, its dual use by the Air Force for national security purposes restricts civilian operations. The new airport is deemed necessary to overcome these limitations and enhance Pune’s global standing.

The Purandar Airport is envisioned to serve both as a passenger terminal and a cargo hub, boosting industrialization and import-export activities in the region. Fadnavis anticipates significant employment opportunities for local youth as a result of this development.

Highlighting Maharashtra’s leading role in India’s development, the Chief Minister described Pune district as a critical economic engine for the state. He expressed confidence that the new airport would accelerate economic growth in the region, furthering Maharashtra’s contribution to national progress.
