Pune: MP Amol Kolhe Seeks Original Route for Pune-Nashik Semi-High Speed Rail Project

Narayangaon, 6th February 2025: Shirur MP Dr Amol Kolhe has urged the Union Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, to maintain the original alignment of the Pune-Nashik Semi-High Speed Rail project. During a meeting in Delhi, Kolhe requested a joint conference between Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) and railway experts to resolve the ongoing dispute over the rail route.
Vaishnaw responded positively, confirming that Central Railway would oversee the project and agreeing to arrange the requested joint meeting. He assured that no political obstacles would hinder the project’s progress.
The original Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the rail line, prepared by Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation, was awaiting cabinet approval when GMRT raised objections. This led to the cancellation of the initial DPR and instructions for a new alignment via Ahilyanagar and Shirdi.
However, the proposed route change has faced opposition from farmers and local representatives in Khed, Ambegaon, Junnar, and Sangamner. They view the original route as crucial for the region’s development and have threatened protests if alterations are made.
Dr Kolhe emphasized that the original rail route could be transformative for the area, bringing development to previously neglected regions. He has consistently advocated for maintaining the initial plan.
MP Dr Kolhe also called on Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to support the original alignment and expedite the project’s implementation. Kolhe stressed the importance of preserving the region’s right to development and providing economic opportunities for farmers.
