Khadki, 10th April 2025: In a significant anti-drug operation, the Pune Railway Police have destroyed over 384 kilograms of narcotics seized over the past several decades. The operation, carried out at the police headquarters in Khadki, involved incinerating the drugs under strict supervision and in compliance with environmental protocols.

The seized substances, including 384.262 kg of cannabis (ganja) and 50 grams of charas, had been recovered in 15 separate cases registered since 1981 across various railway police stations under the Pune Railway Police District—namely Pune, Daund, Solapur, Kurduwadi, and Miraj.
As per police officials, the estimated market value of the narcotics destroyed was around ₹6.6 lakh.

“This was a long-pending process. After getting the required permissions and completing the legal formalities, we executed the destruction in an environmentally safe manner,” said Pune Railway Police Superintendent Tushar Doshi, who oversaw the entire operation.

The narcotics were first catalogued and examined by experts from the Maharashtra State Pollution Control Board and the Department of Weights and Measures. Following detailed inventory proceedings conducted at the judicial courts in Pune, Daund, and Miraj, the green signal was given to destroy the substances.

The disposal took place using a rotary incinerator powered by coal and ultraviolet rays, ensuring complete elimination of harmful residues. The destruction process lasted over nine hours.

Additional Superintendent of Police Rohidas Pawar and DySP (Home) Irfan Shaikh were also present during the operation. The effort was supported by senior officers from various railway police stations, including Senior Police Inspector M. Gurav and Police Sub-Inspectors Ravindra Bhide, Arif Syed, Vinod Ghate, and Sharad Desai, along with personnel from the local crime branch.
