Pune Railway Station Sets Up Holding Area to Tackle Summer Travel Rush

Pune, 25th April 2025: In response to increased passenger traffic during the summer holiday season, Pune Division of Central Railway has established a dedicated holding area at Platform No. 1 near the VIP siding of Pune Railway Station. The initiative is aimed at streamlining passenger movement, reducing overcrowding, and enhancing safety, particularly for general class passengers.
The newly designated holding zone is shaded and equipped with essential amenities including adequate lighting, fans, portable toilets for both men and women, and digital display boards providing real-time train updates. A help desk has also been set up to assist passengers with travel-related queries.
To ensure safety and order, 25 Railway Protection Force personnel and 15 ticket checking staff have been deployed at the station. Additionally, a commercial inspector or supervisor along with one officer is present to oversee crowd monitoring and management. General class passengers are being systematically guided to the holding area and allowed to proceed to platforms in a controlled and queued manner.
Train boarding from the holding area is being conducted in a phased and disciplined process, minimizing congestion and reducing the risk of stampedes. The sale of general tickets for summer special trains is also being regulated based on crowd levels during peak hours to effectively manage passenger flow.
This measure is part of the division’s ongoing efforts to maintain operational efficiency and ensure a smooth travel experience during high-traffic periods at Pune Station.
