Pune Railway Station to Offer Luxurious Five-Star Rest Room, Despite Opposition from Railway Passenger Organizations
Pune, 20th April 2023: The rush of passengers at Pune railway station is increasing day by day, and the railway administration is failing to provide basic facilities to them. However, instead of improving existing facilities, the Railways has planned to set up a paid five-star rest room at the first floor of the reservation building in Pune railway station.
According to the Railways, the aim is to provide luxurious and comfortable facilities to the passengers. A fee will be charged for this facility.
Currently, the main reservation center is located on the first floor of the reservation building. This room will be set up at that place. Travelers will pay for and enjoy the five-star facilities. On the other hand, there are reservation centers for instant and general tickets on the ground floor of the reservation building, where a large crowd of travelers can be seen.
The Railways has plans to move the reservation center on the first floor to the ground floor and set up a rest room at that place. However, no proposal has been sent in this regard yet.
At present, there are five-star rest rooms in some places in the country, including Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Ahmedabad, Vijayawada, Agra Cantonment, Bhagalpur, Jaipur, Kolkata, New Delhi, Salem, Siliguri, Thanjavur, Thivim, and Visakhapatnam stations. These lounges are run by IRCTC.
However, railway passenger organizations have opposed the luxury lounge. Harsha Shah, the president of Railway Pravasi Group, said that the crowd at the railway station is increasing and passengers stand outside the station in the sun. Instead of providing shelter for common passengers, paid facilities are being set up. The Railways has not yet responded to this criticism.
