Pune, 19th August 2025: With continuous heavy rainfall lashing Pune city and district for the past two days, the water discharge from dams into the rivers has been steadily increasing, raising concerns of flooding in low-lying areas. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has appealed to citizens, especially those living near riverbanks, to remain alert and take necessary precautions.

Dr. Yogesh Mhase, Metropolitan Commissioner of PMRDA, said that the rising discharge has caused water levels in the riverbed to surge, posing a risk of water entering nearby urban settlements.

“The Meteorological Department has already issued a red alert for Pune city and district. Citizens should avoid going near riverbanks, safeguard important documents and valuables, and ensure the safety of children, senior citizens, and animals,” he stated.

The PMRDA Disaster Management Team and Fire Department have been placed on high alert to tackle any emergency. PMRDA Chief Fire Officer Devendra Potphode assured that immediate assistance will be provided when needed and urged residents to reach out to the emergency helplines in case of distress.
