Pune, 7th March 2025: In yet another alarming revelation about the poor security and mismanagement of cremation and burial grounds in the city, an infant’s body buried at the Ramtekdi burial ground has mysteriously disappeared. The incident has raised serious concerns over the security of burial sites, prompting the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to file a complaint with the Wanwadi police station.

This shocking case comes after a previous controversy at the Vaikunth crematorium, where a partially burned body was found, only to later be identified as a piece of bread. That incident had already sparked concerns over the sanitation and safety of cremation grounds. Now, the disappearance of a buried infant’s remains has further intensified these worries.

According to reports, a one-day-old infant was buried at the Ramtekdi burial ground near the industrial estate last week. However, on Wednesday, (6th March) locals noticed that the burial site had been dug up. Upon closer inspection, they discovered that the infant’s body was missing, causing panic and outrage in the area.

Following the discovery, officials from the municipal Security Department inspected the site and immediately lodged a complaint with the police. The burial ground is under 24/7 security surveillance and has CCTV cameras installed, yet the body went missing under mysterious circumstances. Authorities are now investigating how the incident occurred despite these security measures.

“We were informed that the buried infant’s body had disappeared. A complaint was immediately lodged with the Wanwadi police. Security guards and CCTV cameras are in place at the burial ground, and the police are now investigating the matter,” said Rakesh Vitkar, PMC Security Officer.

Police have registered a case based on a complaint from the infant’s family. The incident has left locals disturbed and raised serious concerns about the safety and oversight at burial grounds in the city.
