Pune, 1st March 2023: According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Pune is likely to experience heat waves with the highest temperature in February in 147 years. IMD officials say that the city’s temperature is expected to soar to 38 degrees Celsius in the coming days. The sudden rise in temperature has been attributed to a change in the wind direction, with hot winds from the northern parts of the country moving towards Maharashtra.

IMD officials have advised people to take necessary precautions to avoid heatstroke and other heat-related illnesses. The elderly and children are particularly vulnerable to heat-related illnesses and should avoid going out during the hottest part of the day. People should also drink plenty of water and stay in cool, shaded areas as much as possible.

The IMD has also issued a warning to farmers, urging them to take care of their crops and animals during the heat wave. They have advised farmers to avoid working in their fields during the hottest part of the day and to ensure that their animals have access to adequate water and shade.

This sudden rise in temperature is not just limited to Pune, as several parts of Maharashtra are also experiencing unusually high temperatures for this time of year. IMD officials have attributed the change in weather patterns to a combination of factors, including the weakening of the western disturbance and the strengthening of the high-pressure system over the region.

It is important for people to take necessary precautions during this heat wave to avoid any health-related issues. The IMD has advised people to stay informed about the weather conditions and to follow the guidelines issued by the authorities to stay safe.
