Pune Records Hottest Day of the Season, Shirur Hits 40.9°C
Pune, 15th March 2025: The city witnessed its hottest day of the season on Friday, with temperatures soaring to 40.6°C in Lohegaon, marking a 5.4°C rise above normal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
However, the highest temperature in Pune district was recorded in Shirur tehsil, where the mercury hit 40.9°C. Additionally, Talegaon Dhamdhere, also in Shirur, reported 40.3°C, indicating intense heat across rural parts of the district.
Heatwave-Like Conditions Across Maharashtra
While the IMD has not officially declared a heatwave, meteorologists suggest that the current temperature spike and deviation from normal levels are comparable to one.
“A high-pressure system over Gujarat and its adjoining regions is driving this sharp increase in temperatures across Maharashtra,” explained an IMD official. “Similar conditions are likely to persist for the next few days.”

Health Advisory Issued
With extreme temperatures posing potential health risks, experts have urged residents to stay hydrated and avoid outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours.
“Exposure to such high temperatures can be dangerous and, in extreme cases, even life-threatening,” the official added. “We advise people to take necessary precautions to stay safe.”
Marathwada and Vidarbha Also Reeling Under Heat
The intense heat was not limited to Pune. Marathwada saw temperatures exceeding normal levels by 3 to 3.4°C, while Vidarbha experienced even harsher conditions.

“In Vidarbha, seven locations recorded temperatures above 40°C on Friday, with Chandrapur emerging as the hottest city in the state at 41.4°C, which was 4.4°C above normal,” the IMD reported.
As Maharashtra continues to reel under rising temperatures, meteorologists advise caution and preparedness to prevent heat-related illnesses.
