Pune: Refurbished Computers To Give Wings To Aspirations Of Budding Students
Pune, 18th October 2023: Adar Poonawalla Clean City Initiative (APCCI) in association with Poornam Ecovision foundation organized a special function to mark International E-Waste Day recently. In an effort to improve the educational resources for the aspiring and meritorious students from economically weaker background, 15 refurbished computers were donated to NGOs, organisations and children of waste warriors including Vanwasi Kalyan Ashram ( Ghodegaon Pune Dist), Navbharat Kanya Niwas Hostel ( Ahmednagar Dist) etc. The students were excited to receive their computers which would give them access more educational tools .These computers have been refurbished from the e-waste collected earlier.
Krishnan Komandur CEO, APCCI, Malhar Karwande COO, APCCI, Dr Rajesh Manerikar, CEO, Poornam Ecovision Foundation, Sathya Natarajan Lead Volunteer APCCI amongst others were present on the occasion.
At a time when the amount of E-waste generated is increasing significantly worldwide, such initiatives help in keep e waste out of landfills and also empowers students from economically vulnerable backgrounds with more educational tools to pursue their dreams.
In Pune APCCI and Poornam EcoVision Foundation has partnered with the Pune Municipal Corporation for door to door e- waste collection in many parts of the city. As a part of this endeavor e-vehicles have been deployed by APCCI while the system for scheduling a pick up, e-waste segregation for recycling or re-use is being facilitated by Poornam EcoVision foundation. Citizens need to call the helpline 7522999155. The representative will call, take information like name, address, e-waste to be discarded and will share the date and time as per the schedule of the e-vehicle. Alternatively QR code has been displayed at various locations and on the collection vehicles, through which the citizens fill up a form to give details. The e-vehicle will pick up the e-waste according to the scheduled time and date. The e-waste collected is sent to an authorized recycler.
