Khadki, 23rd February 2023: The Khadki Cantonment Board (KCB) unanimously approved the proposal to rename Dr Homi Bhabha Marg to Major RR Rane, PVC Marg. The board justified the renaming of the internal road, which is not used by the general public within the KCB, despite objections from three individuals/organisations.

The Vande Mataram Sanghatna objected to the renaming, stating that it was an insult to the renowned personality Dr Homi Bhabha, whose name is being replaced. However, the board explained that it was not intended as an insult, and that both Dr Homi Bhabha and Maj RR Rane were respected personalities.

Another objection came from Madan Gade, who claimed that a school had already been named after Maj RR Rane in Khadki. Therefore, Dr Homi Bhabha Marg should not be renamed. The board, however, noted that the road in question was an internal one and was not open to the public, so it would not affect the school’s name.

The third objection came from Sudhir Kumar Agarwal, who questioned the intent of the proposal and sought to know who had requested the name change. The board clarified that the proposal had been made in response to requests from defence personnel and trainees who would feel more connected to Maj RR Rane’s name and aura than the former name.

According to KCB president Brig DG Patwardhan, the proposal to change the name would be more relevant to defence personnel and trainees who would feel more connected to Maj RR Rane, who was the first living recipient of the Param Vir Chakra (PVC), India’s highest military decoration.
