Pune: Renowned Mahabharat Scholar and Deccan College Professor, Dr. Gauri Lad, Passes Away at 79
Pune, 28th August 2023: Dr. Gauri Lad, a prominent Mahabharat researcher and retired Deccan College professor, has passed away in Mumbai at the age of 79. She was an esteemed teacher at TMV, a lifetime member of the Bhandarkar Institute, and had served as a guide to numerous PhD students. Dr. Lad, the daughter of senior state government officer Purushottam Mangesh Lad, dedicated her research to archaeological evidence of the Mahabharat.
Her 1978 thesis on the topic was published by Deccan College. Her academic pursuits spanned ancient Indian literature, religion, philosophy, and she even contributed to the excavation of the Mesolithic civilization near Nagpur.
