Pune: Repair Work Of Katraj-Kondhwa Road To Start Soon, Landowners To Get Crores Of Rupees in Compensation: Vikas Dhakane
Katraj, 21st January 2023: Widening of Katraj-Kondhwa road stopped due to land acquisition issue. But the Road Department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is neglecting to repair the existing road as well, resulting in huge traffic jams every day. Finally, the administration has started the work once again.
The encroachments on the side of the road will be removed, the road will be widened on both sides by asphalting the side lanes, and the traffic will be disciplined by adding dividers. The administration has clarified that these works will be completed in one month.
The heavy vehicles coming from Ahmednagar road, Solapur road, and Saswad road are going towards Mumbai through Katraj-Kondhwa road. Therefore, there is always traffic of heavy vehicles on this road. This road of about three kilometers was to be made 84 meters wide.
Four years ago, the groundbreaking ceremony for the same was also performed. But this project has remained incomplete as the land is not occupied. Rs 700 crores would have been spent on land acquisition to build the 84-meter road, but the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) does not have that much money, hence, it was decided to make a 50-meter road. For this, landowners will get Rs 200 crore as compensation. This process will take a few months.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Vikas Dhakne inspected the Katraj-Kondhwa road on Friday (January 20). He said that efforts will be made to start traffic from the places which have been taken over. Similarly, the existing road has potholes or is not level with the road resulting that space is not used. If these sidebars are used, the problem can be reduced by creating an additional space of at least five to six feet on both sides. Similarly, asphalting of this road will also be done.
“The space of side lanes on both sides of Katraj- Kondhwa road is being wasted and the part is not in use. For that, tarring there will make the road wider. Similarly, heavy vehicles are being obstructed as any vehicle is turning from anywhere at present which increases traffic congestion. To avoid this, dividers will be put in the road. There will be only a few places to turn around”, he added.
