Pune: Reports Of Poor Quality Roads Received But No Action Taken By PMC
Pune, 18th August 2022: Although nearly 20 days have passed since the report about potholes on the roads, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has not taken action against the contractors.
Meanwhile, only 17 out of 139 roads have been reported as damaged by a third party audit. Also, eight roads have potholes due to digging by other departments. The report states that nine roads are in the Defect Liability Period (DLP).
During the monsoons, the city’s roads were filled with potholes. Alley roads and major roads were screened. After receiving criticism from citizens, the municipal corporation started repairing potholes. Even after filling 8,500 potholes, the city still has potholes. Over the last few days, pothole-filling has been neglected once again.
The Municipal Commissioner appointed Engineers India Limited, a third-party agency, to inspect the roads in 139 DLPs of the Main Roads Department and submit a report on their current condition. This organization has inspected 138 roads in the city and submitted a report on July 29, 2022.
While recording this report, photos of each road and the current condition are mentioned. Among them, potholes were observed on 17 roads. Fines have been collected from three of these 17 contractors. However, no action has been taken after that.
Eight out of 17 roads were dug by other departments like Water Supply and the Sewerage Department. These roads are potholed because they are buried poorly. But this list was not given to these departments, and no action was taken against the contractors.
