Pune, 2nd January 2022: Maharashtra Association Of Resident Doctors (MARD) has going on strike since today. From January 2, the outpatient services provided by resident doctors and regular inpatient services have been stopped in all government and municipal colleges and hospitals in Maharashtra resulting in a halt of medical services.

Various problems and demands of the resident doctors were presented before the Minister of Medical Education through a letter from the MARD. Since the government and administration are insensitive to the demands of the organization, no concrete measures have been taken yet.

“Although the government has not sympathetically considered the demands of resident doctors, we are going to provide emergency services keeping in mind the health of poor patients such as accident department, maternity ward, ICU,” said the doctors.

“Meanwhile, the march will be held in every college to protest against the policies of the government. The government is forcing us to strike despite the threat of Covid-19. However, until our above demands are not accepted from the government level, our fight will continue through the strike,” said protesters.

For the last year, MARD has tried to inform the government and administration by raising the problems of resident doctors in Maharashtra at various levels. Which several meetings
were held with the Governor, Minister of Medical Education, Secretary of the concerned department, Commissioner, and Director.

The following problems and demands were mainly raised during this meeting.

1. Harassment of students due to inadequate and dilapidated hostels in all government/municipal colleges in Maharashtra.

2. Creation of 1,432 posts of Senior Resident Doctors. But the said proposal has been stalled by the government. Due to this, the future of resident doctors is in jeopardy.

3. Immediate filling of vacant posts of Associate and Assistant Professors.

4. From the effective date, Dearness Allowance should be paid immediately.

5. Presently, justice should be delivered to the senior resident doctors working in the medical colleges of the state by removing the disparity in the pay of the senior resident doctors in Maharashtra and applying equal pay to all the senior resident doctors.
