Kondhwa, 14th June 2023: The NIBM annexe slope road, connecting NIBM to Mohammadwadi and Undri areas, was officially opened to the public today evening, following an inaugural function.

However, residents of the area have expressed concerns to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) regarding incomplete work and safety issues along the road. They have highlighted the need for land acquisition and the fixing of electric power and utility cables, which pose a danger to commuters, particularly during the rainy season.

During the opening ceremony held on the newly constructed cement concrete road, many residents gathered to witness the event. While they were pleased with the road’s opening, they voiced their skepticism about safety standards and demanded immediate action from the PMC. Jaymala Dhankikar, a prominent social worker from Ganga Kingston, emphasized the delayed completion of the road and the need for additional manpower and funding. She stressed the hazardous nature of the current road, particularly its narrow tapering section near Sunshree Society.

Dhankikar called for the installation of street lights, CCTV monitoring, and the presence of traffic police to regulate traffic until the project’s completion.

Residents also took to social media to express their concerns. Yug Joshi urged authorities to prohibit heavy tankers and trucks from using the unfinished road to prevent damage. Businessman Nicky Gurnani emphasized the potential problems that could arise if heavy vehicles continued to ply the road.

The PMC’s road department is undertaking the construction of the 24-feet-wide road at a cost of Rs 3 crores. However, residents of Mohammadwadi criticized the PMC for allegedly neglecting their area while focusing on select regions of the city. They pointed out that the PMC had collected taxes amounting to over ₹224 crores since 2015 from Mohammadwadi and Undri, indicating a disparity in infrastructure development.

The concerns raised by residents highlight the importance of addressing the incomplete work and safety issues associated with the NIBM annexe slope road. The PMC needs to swiftly address the outstanding land acquisition, fix electric power and utility cables, and ensure adequate safety measures such as street lighting and traffic regulation. By prioritizing the completion of the project and addressing residents’ concerns, the PMC can ensure a safe and well-functioning road for the communities it serves.
