Pune Residents to Get Real-Time Updates on Municipal Projects with New Intelligent Works Management System
Pune, 5th December 2024: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), managing a massive budget of ₹9,500 crore, is taking a significant step towards enhancing transparency and efficiency in city development. A new system, the Intelligent Works Management System (IWMS), will soon allow citizens to monitor ongoing civic projects online from the comfort of their homes.
This initiative, under preparation for the past two years, is nearing completion, with 90% of municipal operations already integrated into the system. The full implementation is expected within a few months, marking a shift towards a paperless administration for planning, executing, and auditing development works.
The IWMS will enable residents to view detailed updates about municipal projects in their localities, including before-and-after photos of completed works. Barcodes will be installed at work sites, providing direct access to project information with a scan.
Municipal Commissioner Rajendra Bhosale emphasized that this system aligns with PMC’s vision to increase transparency and efficiency.
According to City Engineer Prashant Waghmare, the system will streamline project planning, prevent duplication of efforts, and ensure timely repairs during the defect liability period.
The IWMS has already been operational on a pilot basis for two years, with municipal engineers trained to use the software. Linked to the Geographic Information System (GIS), the platform has facilitated planning for 6,131 projects in the current fiscal year, with 4,270 development works receiving execution orders post-tendering.
The centralized system will also allow PMC departments to share budgetary and project details, enabling better coordination.
Key Features of IWMS:
Online access to project information for citizens.
Prevention of duplicate or redundant works.
Barcode integration for real-time project updates at work sites.
Transparent monitoring of progress and spending.
The IWMS aims to minimize delays, ensure effective budget utilization, and curb malpractices. It will also allow contractors to address any issues efficiently during the defect liability period, ensuring high-quality civic work.
